5 ways to make sure guests have FUN at your wedding!

NW Arkansas Wedding Planner

Working hard to plan all the details for your wedding day? If you are anything like me, you want to make sure your guests have THE BEST TIME EVER at your wedding!  While planning your wedding, try to keep your guests in mind and plan details to help them enjoy your big day. Will your guests be comfortable?  Is the venue large enough to accommodate all your guests?  Will food and bar be easily accessible without lines?  With all the aspects to plan for a ceremony and reception, keeping your guests comfortable should be at the top of your list AND will ensure everyone has a blast at your wedding!

1. Comfort

Think about your guests and their comfort from ceremony to reception.  Will they be hot or cold? Will they stay dry? Although you may have always dreamed of an outdoor wedding, we all know weather can be unpredictable.  If you are planning a summer wedding, but the average temperature is in the 90s, an outdoor ceremony or reception might not be the best idea unless you provide shade and fans.  Sweating in a cocktail dress or suit is never fun! That does not mean you cannot have the wedding of your dreams, just think through ways to keep your guests comfortable during the ceremony and reception.  If it is raining, have large golf umbrellas for guests from the parking lot to the venue.  Throughout the planning process, ask yourself, is this going to be comfortable?

This wedding at Eden Garden State Park in Santa Rosa, Florida was a PEFECT outdoor setting.  The temperature was in the 70s and guests were comfortable the entire evening!

2. Flow

The wedding day timeline is very important, especially the flow of the event from the ceremony to the end of the reception.  If there is a gap between the ceremony and dinner, make sure your guests have refreshments and appetizers to keep them full, hydrated and entertained!  Also think about the sequence of the reception and make sure everything flows at a nice pace throughout the evening. Avoid putting your guests through long waiting periods between the ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner and dancing.  You want to keep everyone engaged and ready for the next part of the evening! Keeping this in mind throughout the entire evening will keep your guests comfortable and enjoying every moment!

3. Food & Bar

First, it is important to make sure you have hired enough staff to accommodate your guests.  Turn to your caterer and bartenders for recommendations for how many people to hire based on your guest count.  They are the experts! The last thing you want is your guests to stand in line all evening. Multiple double-sided buffets and  multiple bars with bartenders will help alleviate congestion. Make sure to clearly mark food so guests know what they are eating!  Get creative and serve foods that are reflect your tastes but are also crowd pleasers! Also, work with you caterer to create fun displays to really make your buffet or stations stand out!

4. Music & Dancing

Most weddings have a wide range of age in attendance.  Make sure your band or DJ plays music everyone will enjoy!  Change it up throughout the evening but also trust the band or DJ to “read the crowd”.  It’s always a good idea to start with some soft dinner music and then kick off the dance party with a fun song to get everyone out on the dance floor!  Also make sure there is enough room for your guests to dance. I am always a fan of a clear, designated space for the dance floor to help draw guests in! Read the last tip for a dance floor bonus!

5. Build Excitement

A great way to keep your guests engaged is to continue building excitement by bringing out “surprises!” throughout the evening.  Once the dance party gets going, bring out some fun dance floor favors… Don’t be afraid to incorporate tambourines, glow sticks, sunglasses...anything that will help your guests relax and have fun!  You can also surprise your guests with a fun late night snack to refuel after all the dancing. French fries anyone?
